I am always interested in how such advanced computers was built. In case of Watson, It’s fascinating how technologies such as Natural language processing, machine learning & artificial intelligence backed by massive compute & storage power was able to beat two human world champions. And as a person interested in analytic’s and Big Data – I would classify this technology under Big Data and Advanced Data Analytics where computer analyzes lots of data to answer a question asked in a natural language. It also uses advanced machine learning algorithms. To that end, If you’re interested in getting an overview of what went into building WATSON, watch this:
If you’re as amazed as I am, considering sharing what amazed you about this technology via comment section:
Contrary to the first impression you might have formed; it’s neither a debate nor a legal battle room, it’s more a suave discussion on Future of Technology. In this video series: Two of the geeks i admire and read about – Bill gates and Steve jobs, share a podium and talk about things they did, things that can happen and generic stuff in the world of computing. Throughout the video, you will notice the playfulness in their eyes when they try pulling legs of each other; they are small kids again! they are by no means trying to undermine each other but in a subtle way are trying innocently to have fun while discussing some of the concepts of the world of computing in general. it’s like watching two kid-adults playfully discussing on things that will change our world!
I liked their discussion on how cloud computing could find a niche in the world of computing and how and ways it could coexist with contemporary forms of computing.
The video is worth watching. i say this because, for me, it was a very humbling experience. The Kind of life we live, we seldom get time to think about the macro picture. After watching the video, i realized the importance of continuous learning attitude. Since most of the technology becomes obsolete after couple of years, it’s important to keep oneself updated about latest technologies. If you reflect on the video, i am sure you will realize the technological advancement of our age is exponential. The statistics shown in the video gives you a whole new insight. After seeing the video, you will have a new perspective for looking at situations. here’s the video:
Data visualization fascinates me. Churning out jaw dropping visualizations by extracting information from heaps of data is always challenging. Being a computer engineering student and information management enthusiast, i realize the process involves complex algorithms and considerable computing power.
Data visualization can enable a Decision maker to make better decisions. It enables them to see the information in an holistic manner.
The idea behind the tools demonstrated are simple yet profound. They revolve around a concept that ‘humans desire to express themselves’. The tool fetches data from the blogs around the world and mines it to give useful insights. The speaker demonstrated couple of tools and in both tools, the data visualization methods employed was state-of-the-art. such videos deepen my fascination for data mining and information management. you can watch the video to get an insight into how ‘feelings’ can be mined (‘analyzed’) to understand the world around us.
it’s a 5 min video which describes what’s in store for us in the domain of future mobile phone. the speaker is working to bridge the divide between our physical world and our digital world. this video answers the question what can be done to make our digital content graspable?. he describes three characteristics namely mass, shape and intuition that if embedded in mobile phones can help bridge the divide between our physical world and digital world. I had seen a similar video on ‘sixth sense’ in which the speaker pranav mistry (a MIT phd candidate) is working on a technology that bridges the gap between our physical world and digital world. The above mentioned technologies fall broadly into the ‘Human Computer Interaction’. you can watch video’s here:

Yet Another video on Human Computer Interaction. it’s very innovative!

How can one make the best use of the social media? Even when it means doing it the way it has never been done before. that was the conclusion that the speaker gave. i think this is the crux of talk. the talk explains the radical changes that have happen in the landscape of the social media in the recent years and the ho it has transformed the way people communicate. gone are the days when media content was generated only by professionals and the fact that media was institutionalized. Today’s Media content is delivered by dilettantes who by no means are professionals. they are common man with a voice and zeal to share knowledge. watch the video to understand the radical change that has happen in recent years in the domain of social media and how sites like twitter and facebook are changing the way we communicate.
